We’ve been dying to know what’s gonna happen with Malec since Magnus crashed Alec’s wedding to profess his love in season 1 of ‘Shadowhunters.’ Season 2 won’t start until 2017, but Harry Shum Jr. told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that he believes they’re ‘soulmates’!
Omg yes! After the season 1 finale of Shadowhunters, the question on everyone’s mind was “what’s going to happen to Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood’s relationship”?! Last time we saw them, Magnus had stopped Alec’s wedding to Lydia and Alec came out of the closet to be with him! Harry Shum Jr. shed some light on where things stand EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com when we asked him if the duo are “soulmates.”
“I think in the books they are,” said Harry. “They’re almost polar opposites when you really think about it. It’s like that Paula Abdul song “Opposites Attract.” That has a lot to do with it because there’s so much that can be learned from both sides. Even this guy that’s been around for so long, there’s a lot that he can learn from Alec and vice versa.” Eep! We can’t wait to see the relationship develop!
Not only that, but we’re going to learn a LOT more about Magnus’ dark past. “Magnus is going to be a character that we explore a lot more. This guy has lived for so many centuries, he has so many experiences that play into the story. He’s kind of a tormented soul. He’s been through a lot and is covering up a lot. I find a new layer to him every time I open a script.”
Whether it’s Magnus in Shadowhunters, or his character Peter in his new YouTube Red showSingle By 30, Harry is so talented at playing the sweet, tender guy. That’s all thanks to his family! “I grew up with two older sisters and I really got to express myself and talk through things and kind of get and understanding of how certain emotions are going to bring you to a certain state,” he told us.
“At the end of the day it’s just these situations that these stories are put in, I just try to find the most truthful bits of it and I think whoever I’m opposite with, whether it’s Shadowhunters or Single by 30, it really comes from that. I’m lucky to be across from someone who helps me bring those emotions out.”
We can’t wait to watch Harry bring all of those emotions out in his new show Single by 30 by Wong Fu Productions, streaming now exclusively on YouTube Red. Check it out, here!
